iCloud: To sync or not to sync?

I have received many inquiries on the possibility to synchronize data between the iPad and iPhone. My hope was that when iOS5 was released, I would easily be able to implement a synchronization using iCloud. Unfortunately it seems that it was not as easy as I thought.

A data synchronization can be achieved, but to synchronize existing data seems to be difficult. There are no official example to follow and more people are facing the same problems.

Right now I have left the iCloud solution until I found it stable.

However, I have begun to look at a backup / restore solution using DropBox. Perhaps not a fully automatic synchronization. This solution lets you manually save a backup from one device (iPhone) and then restore it on another (iPhone). This would be a temporary solution, but my hope is that most people would be satisfied for the moment.
